History
SOBEM was created in 1955 in Dijon, France and started out with the manufacture of circuit-breakers, starters, steel tubes and electrical boards.
In 1976, because of a decline in the steel tubing market, it expanded into industrial sheet metal work and from 1971 developed a range of electrical cabinets for construction sites. In 1987, SOBEM experienced strong growth in the sheet metal side of its business. In 1994, it bought EFFEL, a specialist in the manufacture of boxes for the automobile industry. Our continuous investments allowed us to build up a pool of modern and high-performance machines which, combined with a qualified workforce, mean we can offer top quality, innovative and lasting products for sale.
Over the years, SOBEM has continued to develop its product ranges and today offers a complete and diverse range: steel boxes, stainless steel boxes, steel cabinets and cells, polyester boxes, rubber boxes, detachable cells, stainless steel cabinets as well as cabinets and boxes for construction sites, DIN rails and accessories… In addition to our standard products, we can offer specific products tailored to customer requirements. We can manufacture special sizes and colours of boxes and we can also fit them out according to specifications. The design of control consoles is also part of our expertise.
SOBEM has several subsidiaries: SOBEM-SCAME (France, sale of electrical equipment – 1997), E-Rail (Chicago, sale of DIN rails in the US – 1999), SOBEM-ROMANIA (Bucharest, manufacture and sale of metal cabinets and boxes for Eastern Europe – 2005).
